2. Behaviors focused on systems-thinking, customer empathy, and value-focused innovation

The above frameworks are successful only if core competencies for high-context innovation are encouraged.  A catalyst for high-context discoveries and innovation is the deployment of my Innovation team members to spend part of their time coaching and mentoring others on the five key innovation behaviors that the Corporate Executive Board R&D Leadership Council recently discovered in a survey of 1,932 respondents from industry: Idea integration, customer empathy, risk taking, results seeking, and influencing.

The mechanisms for socializing these skills will include innovation challenges and hackathons that I have facilitated and sponsored in the past. Furthermore, a new breed of shared metrics/dashboard between researchers, partners, and institutional leadership will help all interested parties create an appropriate organizational culture, critical capabilities for nimble and broad systems thinking, and measurable return on investment.
